Our Story.

The Motley Futures Foundation was created by Northwestern High School alumni, Dr. Brittany and Roman Motley, to return the love and support they received as students navigating poverty, housing instability, and food insecurity. The Resilience Project is our first initiative, designed to uplift Detroit High School students with scholarships, micro-grants, and mentorship.

Mission Statement:

To promote economic mobility by providing resources, mentorship, and direct financial support to Detroit youth—beginning with Northwestern High School.

Vision:

A future where all students—regardless of background—have a pathway to postsecondary success and wealth-building opportunities.

Our Solution: The Resilience Project.

This program provides scholarships, mentorship, emergency micro-grants, and coaching for Northwestern high school seniors navigating the transition to college, apprenticeships, or entrepreneurial pathways. It’s not just about funding futures, it’s about helping young people build the capacity to weather storms and still rise.

Pathway Scholarships

We will provide two annual $2,000 scholarships to graduating seniors across (2) Tracks:

Track 1: 3.0 GPA, Essay, and proof of acceptance into an 2yr or 4yr college.
Track 2: 3.0 GPA, Essay, and proof of acceptance to an apprenticeship, trade program, certification pathway, or submission of a business plan for an entrepreneurial venture.

Emergency Funding

We will create a pool of just-in-time funds to support students facing urgent needs related to housing, food, clothing, or transportation. These funds will be accessible through staff referral and judgment.
